Britain's favourite small car will be celebrated at the Oulton Park Mini Festival this Saturday (8 August), with an exciting all-Mini racing programme and a lively off-track line-up. The Mini name's unparalleled heritage will be celebrated by a superb racing line-up, starring examples of both the Issigonis-inspired original design, and BMW's modern interpretation.
Racing will include the Power Maxed MINI Challenge, the fastest Mini racing series in the country, and home to the most advanced racing Mini ever, the Gen 3. MINI Challenge has established itself in recent seasons as a genuine step on the ladder to touring car stardom, so expect plenty of thrilling bumper-to-bumper dices as the tin top hopefuls battle for glory.
Older Minis will star in the Mini Miglia and Mini Se7ens races, two categories renowned for fierce competition. The cars will be evenly-matched and, with no aerodynamic parts to complicate things, there should be plenty of side-by-side moments through the circuit's faster sections.
The Mini remains a pop culture icon, so it's no surprise that hundreds of enthusiastic Mini owners will descend on the venue to take part in car club displays. The off-track atmosphere is a major element of the show, and its amongst the droves of displayed Minis that like-minded souls can swap anecdotes and engage in Mini-related conversations.
New MINIs will be put to use in a slightly more unorthodox fashion in the demonstration area, where Russ Swift's world-famous stunt show will be the headline act. Swift is the master of precision driving and fans should prepare to marvel at his thrilling manoeuvres.
The paddock will be open all day, allowing spectators to take a closer look at the racing Minis as they're prepared for battle, whilst there will be opportunities to browse through the Mini-related paraphernalia too in an extensive trade area.
There will also be opportunities for teenagers to sample what it's like to drive a new MINI in taster sessions of MSV's renowned YoungDrive! experience. YoungDrive! offers 11-17-year-olds the chance to enjoy their first driving lesson in a safe and controlled environment with a DSA-approved instructor. These can be purchased on the day for just £30.
